Scenes From Dodgers' Spring Training Day One
The Beatlemania around the 2024 Dodgers kicked off in Glendale, Arizona.
Even before the Super Bowl has kicked off, pitchers and catchers reported to spring training yesterday. We drove over to Glendale and checked out the buzz at the Dodgers’ facility at Camelback Ranch.
The man of the hour, Shohei Ohtani, didn’t make a public appearance, but plenty of his teammate were training out in the open. We followed the hoard of Japanese media who flocked to the pitchers’ side of the camp as super ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto took the practice fields for the first time.
Camelback Ranch is a sprawling, open facility with a very fan friendly design. Open paths meander through a matrix of practice fields, allowing you to stand right behind batting practice and bullpen work. Autograph hounds were out in force, with large art style sketchbooks filled with hundreds of cards. It was easy to track down foul balls and batting practice home runs. One fan even asked Max Muncy for his bat after a round of hitting and Muncy carefully passed the bat through the fence.
